Avalon Holographics Receives $1 Million in Provincial Funding to Enhance Portability of NOVAC Holographic Display Table

NOVAC Holographic Display in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

Provincial Government funding supports a local tech company to make innovative technology accessible to a global audience.

(ST. JOHN’S, Aug. 28, 2024). Avalon Holographics is excited to announce that it has secured $1.02 Million in funding from the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology (IET) of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to support the enhancement of its 40-inch holographic display table, NOVAC. This project, with a total estimated cost of $3.917 million, is a pivotal step towards making the NOVAC table more portable and accessible to a global customer base.

Project Overview

The funding will be instrumental in addressing current limitations in the design of the NOVAC holographic display table, which currently poses challenges in terms of portability and transportation. These improvements will enable Avalon Holographics to better showcase its cutting-edge technology and make it easier to ship to customers worldwide, enhancing the customer experience and expanding market reach.

The project, expected to be completed by May 2025, will focus on several key areas:

The project's primary objective is to transform the NOVAC Holographic Display table into a transportable unit without compromising functionality or visual appeal. The team aims to explore design modifications, choice of materials, and packaging strategies to balance performance and convenience. These efforts are expected to facilitate deployment to satellite locations and streamline shipping to customers. The project involves evaluating and optimizing the current design of NOVAC to enhance its assembly and disassembly processes, calibration and characterization procedures, and reduce the impact of vibration on optical, mechanical, and electronic components. The form factor will also be refined to enhance the display's overall mobility. Modular packaging designs will be explored to enable quick and easy assembly at satellite sites.

Expected Outcomes

The expected outcomes of this project are a transportable holographic display table optimized for satellite deployment and operation, efficient shipping, and enhanced user experience. These improvements are anticipated to accelerate technology adoption across various industries, positioning Avalon Holographics as a leader in holographic display solutions.

Impact on Newfoundland & Labrador’s Economy

This project will not only bolster Avalon Holographics’ competitive edge in the global market but also reinforce Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing reputation as a hub for innovative technology development. The successful execution of this initiative will contribute to the province's economic growth and showcase its commitment to supporting cutting-edge technology.
