Lockheed Martin Canada Commits $11.7M to Avalon Holographics

Avalon Holographics is pleased to announce an $11.7 million CAD commitment from Lockheed Martin Canada to support the continued advancement of our holographic display technology and the growth of Canadian innovation.

Avalon has collaborated with Lockheed Martin Canada since 2020. Building on that relationship, the commitment includes a new $5.6 million CAD contract, following an initial $6.1 million CAD Phase 1 funding.

The continued partnership will support the advancement of Avalon’s holographic display technology, including table-top prototypes and large-scale flat-panel light-field displays, while supporting highly skilled jobs in engineering, software and manufacturing at our locations in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Edmonton, Alberta.

WHY IT MATTERS

Avalon is developing a new generation of true 3D holographic displays designed to fundamentally change how people see, understand and interact with complex visual information.

Our technology recreates light in a way that allows multiple people to experience realistic 3D content together, without glasses or headsets. For defence applications, this shared 3D environment can support training, simulation, mission planning and situational awareness by giving teams a more intuitive way to understand complex operational environments and systems.

Since 2020, our collaboration with Lockheed Martin Canada has helped advance Avalon’s core holographic capabilities and support our transition from early-stage development toward commercial deployment. An Avalon holographic display has also been installed at Lockheed Martin’s Center for Innovation, The Lighthouse, providing an environment to explore applications of the technology.

This next phase of our partnership will help Avalon continue advancing both table-top prototypes and large-scale flat-panel light-field displays while strengthening our Canadian engineering, software and manufacturing capabilities.

The investment is being made as part of Lockheed Martin Canada’s economic commitments associated with the River-class destroyer program and the Victoria-class Submarine Command and Control System contract under Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy.

FROM OUR FOUNDER

“At Avalon, we’re committed to delivering world-class technologies for Canadian businesses and industry,” said Wally Haas, President and Founder, Avalon Holographics. “This investment has already enabled meaningful growth within our company, including significant workforce growth, and this next phase of partnership demonstrates Lockheed Martin Canada’s continued confidence in our work. We look forward to seeing where this collaboration will take us in the future.”

Stephen Isaacs, General Manager, Lockheed Martin Canada Rotary and Mission Systems, highlighted the role Canadian partnerships play in Lockheed Martin Canada’s operations:

“Our investment in Avalon Holographics will enable continued innovation from an incredible Canadian company, supporting employment opportunities across the country and contributing to the development of critical new training and simulation capabilities.”

LOOKING AHEAD

This renewed commitment represents another important step in Avalon’s work to bring true holographic display technology into real-world applications.

With continued development taking place in St. John’s and Edmonton, the partnership will support Canadian expertise and highly skilled jobs while helping Avalon push the boundaries of what is possible with shared, glasses-free 3D visualization.

We’re excited to continue working with Lockheed Martin Canada as we advance the next generation of holographic display technology.
